WARNING: Everything listed show be used at your own discretion. Some items require a little more technical knowledge than others.

Game Performance Issues:

Check for latest drivers for your video card:
• Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
• Radeon: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Checking your current RAM
• Right Click on My Computer and click properties.

Check your page file size. This should be 1.5 times the amount of RAM you have installed in your computer.

A few basic things can be down to improve speed/performance of a computer and frequently can solve whatever problem is going on. You will want to download and install a Spyware removal program (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) Run a virus removal program (if you do not have one installed you can do a free online scan from: http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/)

Steps for Malware Bytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org
• Once downloaded – open the file and install – accept all the defaults during installation
• On the last screen of the install leave the defaults to update now and open the application
• Choose FULL Scan and Click Next (or scan now)
• Once it has finished (generally takes 1 hour) click Show Results
• Choose to delete ALL items it has found and reboot if prompted to do so.

Steps for Virus Scanner: http://www.eset.com/onlinescan
• This is only needed if you do not have up to date virus protection
• Follow the on screen prompts, choose to delete any items that maybe found
• Scan should take around a 1 hour to complete also.

Depending on how many programs you have installed on your computer it might be time to complete a little maintenance on your pc.

• Toolbars: If you open your default browser and see multiple toolbars only keep the 1 that you actually want.
o Open Add/Remove Programs
 XP: Start – Control Panel – Add/Remove Programs
 Vista/7 : Start – Computer – Uninstall or Change a Progrsm
o Browse the list of installed items and remove legacy programs and/or toolbars.

• Disk Defrag: Click : START – ALL PROGRAMS – ACCESSORIES – SYTEM TOOLS – DISK DEFRAGMENTER
o Analyze each disk and if needed defrag (this takes time and you should not use the computer for other activities while this is running)

• System Configuration: START – RUN – MSCONFIG
o Browse the list of items and uncheck any items that are no longer being used. Keep in mind that a program may come back in that list if it is launched.
o Important: Disabling third-party System Services and Startup Items can prevent some software or OEM hardware on your computer from working correctly. For example, this can affect the CD/DVD control buttons on portable computers or prevent wireless keyboards and mice from functioning. If you are already using the Selective Startup option in Windows, you will need to keep track of which items you disable and re-enable so after performing this troubleshooting, you can get your computer back to the way it was. Selecting Normal Startup may enable items that you were not using, and could cause issues.

By the way, if you're going to use MSConfig to remove junk from start up in Vista and/or Win7 and you don't like the endless reminder it gives you that you removed some files from start up use an outside program to edit the startup such as A-Squared HijackFree and only use the Autoruns menu and only clean up what you don't want out of the Registry and AutoStart Menu options. If you go outside of those areas you may turn off features that shouldn't be turned off and brick your computer.

For some of you who may get an infection it will disable your ability to view web pages. This is a simple fix. First open internet explorer, then click tools, then select options (internet options), then select connections, click the lan settings button, finally uncheck the box for proxy. Click apply and ok to close out of each window and restart your internet explorer. This will allow you to connect to a site to get fixes, updates, or even remote assistance started so you can get your computer back up and running.
